Why
get a survey done?
Studies have shown that insulation problems, poor ventilation, draughts
etc are contributing factors to ill health in people of all ages.
For some people this, combined with low disposable income and limited
activity, leads to a situation know as fuel poverty. In certain parts
of the country where houses were built in the 70s & 80s or before
there was little or no insulation used. If we can redress this problem
it would give many people the chance to reduce the money they spend
on heating bills which in turn will free up money for other uses.
By doing a heat loss survey and improving your insulation you will
be taking the first step to improving your quality of life and also
helping the environment at the same time. We all must look at alternative
ways to heat our homes and working environment and reduce the amount
of fossil fuels we use. If we can reduce our use of fossil fuels,
this will have positive implications for the generations to follow.
Another important consideration is the upcoming EU Energy Performance
of Buildings Directive (EPDB) which states that all new and existing
buildings require a Building Energy Rating (BER) certificate. This
certificate must be handed over at the completion of a new building,
and at the point of sale or rental of existing buildings. This certificate
gives an energy performance for the building. Before you go for a
Building Energy Rating you can get a heat loss survey done which will
show if you have any insulation issues.
With all these factors in mind doing a heat loss survey is one of
the first steps you can take to improve your quality of living which
creates a better environment for all of us.
